Engineer - Networks

Business Unit:  Shared Services
Division:  Information Technology

I. BASIC PURPOSE / JOB BRIEF:

Responsible for the execution of implementation plan, deployment, maintenance and troubleshooting of the company’s network & telecommunications infrastructure. This position is focused on the architecture, development, implementation and escalated support of the Data Center infrastructure and management of network management/monitoring systems. You should be able to promote positive customer relations by making sure that the team provides prompt, courteous and efficient service to internal and external customers.

Engineering and Implementation: The ability to create implementation plan. This includes creation of methods of procedure, testing procedure and roll-back plans.

Network Operations, Support, Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Knowledge of system tools and standard operating system support processes. This includes a working knowledge of hardware and software operation and the ability to isolate, troubleshoot and maintain network infrastructure.

II. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Technical Competency in Data Center Network infrastructure Deployment and execution
  • Manage network management/monitoring system
  • Identify technologies and solutions to support the technology road map.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to related technology disciplines for collaborative projects.
  • Interact with solution and technology vendors for project services and technology updates, among other engagements.
  • Collaborate with team members to create and develop plans and design of IP networks to support new projects and enhancements
  • Lead proof of concept activities, as well as conduct design and performance assessment of customer projects.
  • Performs service testing and benchmarking for ip services and enhanced customer experience.
  • Provide isolation, resolution and tracking for escalated alarms and issues.
  • Manage recurring problems and create and/or implement long term solutions.
  • Escalate incidents to vendor for resolution when necessary.
  • Invokes change management process for every changes that needs to be applied on the network.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review service work order from IP Network Engineer group and manage the implementation timeline based on the content.
  • Execute network capacity plans and upgrades, ensuring high availability and adherence to Datacenter Network Architectural design
  • Plan and execute proof of concept (POC) activities for new network elements integration, with close coordination to technology vendors and system integrators.
  • Manage trouble tickets and ensure resolution within SLA
  • Monitor and improve support group's service level agreements (SLA).
  • Ensure proper escalation of trouble tickets to concerned groups.
  • Provide assistance via client technical meetings to escalated/recurring concerns.
  • Provide mentoring to IT team members to enhance team technical skills
  • Design maintenance activities and creation of knowledge base
  • Provide 24/7 support for all network related escalations
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the IT Manager

III. JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

 Educational Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Information Technology (IT), Computer Science, Engineering, or other technical/IT field

 

Experience Requirement:

  • 4+ years minimum experience in IT, concentrating on network engineering CCNP or higher-level certification(s) in Routing & Switching, Voice, Data Centre or Security OR equivalent experience.

 

Skills and Attributes:

  • Self-Motivated, must have excellent communication skills and effective
  • Demonstrated high level of technical skills in Network technologies.
  • Deep knowledge of enterprise networking including protocols, routing, switching, firewalls, load balancing, data center, security and wireless networking.
  • Must be hands on with advanced troubleshooting and technical skills.
  • Fully understand IT internal processes, policies and procedures.
  • Able to analyze, prioritize and solve problems in a service driven organization.
  • A strong teamwork attitude with initiative and motivational skills accompanied with prior experience in a support service role is required.
  • Expertise in Cisco NXOS/Nexus and ACI, GPON technology, Wireless LAN Controllers, Network Security

  • Proficient in both spoken and written English.
  • Able to learn new product updates and technologies
  • Able to communicate appropriately with client technical and executive staff
