Category Specialist - Procurement

I. BASIC PURPOSE / JOB BRIEF:
The Category Specialist - Procurement applies category management in procurement spend by grouping together similar commodities and services and coming up with procurement strategies to drive efficiency and sustainable cost savings.
II. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Identifies supply risks and mitigates (transfer, eliminate, reduce) it to ensure business and supply continuity
- Implements the SCD quality management system – to business units, vendors, and team members
- Adheres to government and company rules and regulations and implements the category management process
- Performs demand forecasting based on the requirements of the end-user or business unit and the actual spend
- Performs scanning of the supply environment and the sustainable vendors to supply the required commodities and services
- Implements supplier rationalization programs and strategies to develop new sources of supply in order to optimize competition
- Researches and identifies innovative procurement solutions that can be implemented within a specific category to spend
- Works closely with procurement operations to better understand the requirement for efficiency and cost savings
- Identifies per targeted commodity and/or services procurement strategies and appropriate project management
- Maintains a healthy mix of accredited and reliable vendors to support the various commodities and services needed by the business units
- Enables the team to source, negotiate, and recommends the most competitive and compliant vendor through bid tabulation
- Implements robust project management and ensures that it will be delivered in time with efficiency and savings planned
- Provides suggestions on ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value and innovation, aid business performance and work towards a strategy of continuous improvement
- Performs other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the Management
III. JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Educational Requirement:
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Engineering
Experience Requirement:
- At least 1 year experience in procurement, preferably in strategic purchasing and category management
Skills and Attributes:
- Proficient in Needs Analysis, category management, sourcing strategy and development, procurement process management, supplier evaluation, selection, and negotiation, contract implementation, supplier management
Other Qualifications:
- Ability to interpret relevant information when presented with ambiguous and complex tasks
- Ability to assess risks and manage complicated task
- Ability to stay optimistic even when there is a setback
- Ability to demonstrate passion and enthusiasm for work
