Blooming Beyond Stereotypes
Diversity, equity, and inclusivity at Okada Manila are reflected in the everyday stories of its team members. One of them is John Lester Tagle, a Floral Operations Assistant who is redefining expectations in a field often seen as “for women.”
“Some people are surprised to see a male florist,” he admits. “But I don’t take it personally. I just focus on my work and let the quality of my arrangements speak for itself. Floristry is about creativity, care, and connection—and that has nothing to do with gender.”
Since joining the Floral Department almost a year ago, John Lester has felt embraced for who he is. “From the start, I felt like I belonged. I didn’t have to change who I was to fit in. Just being myself was enough, and that means a lot.”
His creativity is not only accepted but encouraged. He recalls one moment when he suggested an idea he wasn’t sure would be welcomed. Instead of being dismissed, his leader asked him to take the lead in bringing it to life. “That moment made me feel seen, heard, and appreciated for who I am,” he says.
Stories like John Lester’s reflect the Talent and Community pillar of Okada Green Heart, which highlights the resort’s commitment to building a workplace where everyone is supported, recognized, and empowered to grow.
