Senior Engineer - Database Administrator
I. BASIC PURPOSE / JOB BRIEF:
The IT Senior Engineer - Database Administrator manages the administration of client/server databases. Analyze the database needs and develops a long-term strategy for data storage. Oversees the design, maintenance and implementation of the systems that manage a server database.
II. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Maintains all MS-SQL, MySQL and Oracle databases including set-up, configuration, administration, tuning, troubleshooting, data manipulation and back-ups.
- Recommends hardware configurations as they pertain to database performance and high availability.
- Performs database performance monitoring and tuning, including advance skills in the effective use of database tools such as as query analyzer.
- Monitor in the on call production support rotation and may occasionally be required to do troubleshoot database service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends.
III. JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Educational Requirement:
- University graduate, preferably IT, BSECE/BSComSci, or related courses.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years hands on experience managing multi-terabyte mission and business critical 25x7 databases.
Skills and Attributes:
Technical Skills
- Server Platform Technologies (Windows, UNIX, and Linux) skills.
- Database technologies (MS-SQL, MySQL, Oracle) and tools.
- Excellent understanding of RPO/RTO and underlying tools used to comply as agreed.
- Documentation and process control knowledge.
Leadership Skills:
- Service contract negotiation skills.
- Ability to work quickly, under pressure to deadlines.
- Can work harmoniously with vendor and other team.
Other Qualifications:
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and creative problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in both spoken and written English is a must.
