I. BASIC PURPOSE / JOB BRIEF:

Senior Engineer – Backup & Storage is responsible for the design, implementation, management and optimization of the company’s enterprise storage and data protection system. The ideal candidate will ensure data availability, reliability, capacity planning and recoverability while adhering to best practices in performance, security, and disaster recovery. You will play a key role in maintaining mission-critical systems and supporting our organization's data management strategy.

II. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Design and implement enterprise backup solutions, ensuring data integrity and recoverability.
• Perform regular backup operations, monitor processes, and resolve issues.
• Develop and test disaster recovery plans to ensure minimal downtime and data loss.
• Optimize backup schedules to balance performance and resource utilization.
• Deploy, configure, and maintain storage area networks (SAN) and network-attached storage (NAS) systems.
• Monitor storage capacity and performance to ensure efficient operations.
• Manage storage provisioning, tiering, and data archiving strategies.
• Implement deduplication, compression, and replication technologies to maximize storage efficiency.
• Collaborate with IT teams to understand storage and backup requirements for new applications or systems.
• Provide technical support and training to team members on backup and storage tools.
• Work with vendors for procurement, upgrades, and technical support of storage systems.
• Maintain accurate documentation for backup and storage configurations, policies, and procedures.
• Generate regular reports on backup success rates, storage utilization, and system performance.

IV. JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Educational Requirement:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.

Experience Requirement:

• 3–5+ years of experience in storage and backup systems engineering or administration.

Skills and Attributes:
 

Technical Skills and Soft Skills:

• Strong knowledge of backup technologies (e.g., Dell Networker, Dell Data Domain, etc.)
• Proficiency in storage solutions (e.g., Dell Storage, NetApp Storage, or similar)
• Experience with SAN and NAS architectures and protocols (e.g., iSCSI, NFS, CIFS, Fibre Channel)
• Hands-on experience with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and their integration with storage systems
• Scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation and monitoring
• Dell EMC or NetApp certifications
• Microsoft or VMware certifications related to storage and virtualization
• Familiarity with cloud-based storage and backup solutions (e.g., AWS S3, Azure Backup)
• Strong analytical skills to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with other IT Groups
• Effective prioritization and management of multiple tasks and projects.
